Digi Awards 2016-Be The Change

This term we have been working on our DigiAwards. Everybody participates in it and there are all sorts of categories such as:

  • digital art
  • movie making
  • digital sandpit
  • website creation
  • green screen.
We chose the movie making category because we thought it would be the best for us.
Some things that were challenging were filming because Tim was being annoying.
If I did it again I would choose to film another topic.

I really enjoyed making our movie with Tim and Shukoor. Here is our movie, hope you
enjoy!

My Speech 2016-Smoking should be illegal!

This term we were focusing on persuasive writing by writing speeches. My speech topic was on smoking and how it should be illegal. A lot of people die every year from smoking so that's why i decided to write on this topic.

I think I looked up pretty well but I need to work on hooking in the audience earlier. I hope you enjoy.

My William Pike Challenge Adventure

At the age of 19 William Pike was climbing Mt Ruapehu with his friend, James. To sleep they went to find a cabin. When he was sleeping a huge rock slammed against his leg and James, Who had never been climbing before, had to climb back down the mountain and get help. After a while a helicopter came up and flew him to a hospital where he had his leg amputated. Because of his love of the outdoors he wanted to educate others and he set up the William Pike Challenge Award. For this award we have to do between 6-8 Outdoor Challenges. Here is my recount on our rock climbing adventure - outdoor challenge #2!

On Monday the 20th of June our class went rock climbing on the Port Hills, in Christchurch.
Thank you to all of the adults that gave us transport: Andrea, Tanya, Miss Todd, Mrs Royfee, Jacqui and  MIss Blair for organising the rock climbing and Josh and Steven who were our instructors.

Josh talked about the values that we were to focus on today; Pride and Resilience. They both relate to our everyday life. In sport if you get knocked down you will have to get back up and keep going and that is resilience.

IMG_3216.JPGI don't have any experiences with rock climbing but I do climb a lot of trees. When I first saw the rocks we were climbing there were some that looked easy and others that looked harder. Eventually I did climb and down one in 20 seconds and another one that I made it three quarters up.

I felt that rock climbing brought up my adrenaline and I'm  sure it did for the rest of our class. I nearly fell down the hill but I still found it very fun. At the end of the day I felt sore, tired and extremely proud of what I had done. I am glad I learnt the values like “Resilience and” “Pride”. I took a lot of photos and here are a few.

I was sweating and i was starting to get hungary. I had already eaten a lot of food. As we were about to land the plane started to swing side to side and it was a crooked land. as we got out of the plane there was a man walking away who had swept all the leaves away. When we walked into the airport someone yelled out, "HEY!"

My 100WC

Once upon a time a old man was walking through the mall with his friend, Franklin when they decided to sit on a bench. After a while a Magician walked up to them to do some magic on him and his friend. Franklin didn’t believe the magic so he said turn him into a statue. The magic man said abracadabra and then straight away he was made of stone. I said to him Franklin, Franklin, Franklin. He didn’t talk back so I went and got Mcdonalds. When I finished eating I tried to shake him but he wouldn’t talk.

The Stalker

     The Stalker

I woke up to hear knocking on the glass. At first I thought it was a branch but then it got louder and louder. Then I saw a shadow in the window. Then a flame flickered and then went out again. The noises started again... They got louder. Then I started to hear voices from outside my door. Then I started to hear voices on my roof. After that my door opened by itself. Then a lot of Hyenas ran straight into my face and started to Bite me. They walked out and with one eye saw a creepy man.

My ANZAC Reading Work

The past few weeks my reading group has been working on an ANZAC day study. I found it very stressful as I  had to have it done by Friday. I finished it just in time which was very lucky. The most interesting thing I found about it is how many people died. I hope you enjoy my ANZAC slide!

My 100WC

This Year our class is working on this site called 100 word challenge. What we have to do is write a story on a prompt with exactly 100 words. I hope you enjoy mine!

Once I was walking down the street when suddenly there was a random stairway leading into the clouds. So I started walking up when suddenly a cat-whale jumped out at me and pushed me off the stairs. Then while he was beating me up a Monkey-dog jumped off the stairs and started to help the cat whale to beat me up. so I started to run to my house and leaned against my door. Waited a while when suddenly the cat whale fell through my roof and onto my couch and started to chase me again boom! Knockout!

My True Or False Holiday Story

This is my True Or False holiday story. What you guys have to do is read my story and guess if it's true or false. Hope you enjoy!

In the 2nd week of the school holidays we weren't doing much all week but going to skateparks so Mum Suggested to go to Adrenaline Forest near Spencer Park. Hunter and I were excited because it was the first time for both of us. As we arrived we walked up to the office to pay and then we got our harnesses on and started to practice to clip the hooks on. When we were finished I was pretty confident I could pass one and two but I climbed them anyway.

I finished one pretty easy and thought it was going to be really easy the whole way but when I got to the highest point of to which was 18 metres and I was surprised how high I really was.

When I finished 2 I watched Hunter for a while then when on to 3 which was even higher I met this couple from texas who were on holiday who helped me through 3 which was pretty easy until I got to this obstacle called the balance rope which i got the guy to go first and then I went and it wasn’t hard at all at the end the was this zipline which was roughly 20 metres long which was really fun.

When I got down we started to go out to the car when we saw this little dog which I forgot his name and another dog which I forgot his name as well. We tried to get a photo but It ran away.

William Pike Challenge Launch Night Recount

On Tuesday 9th Of March most of our class’s parents came to school for the William Pike Challenge Launch at about. When we got there we got all the food ready and then we ate. We were still getting our spiders while everyone was eating.

After eating we all went into the whare hui and started listening to his story. He talked about to he climbed Mt Ruapehu with his friend and how he lost his leg. We were listening for about half an hour, I had already heard most of his story so I just listened to him again.

Once he was finished talking he had lots of books and t shirts that we could buy but I didn’t buy any because our class already had 2 or 3. I am looking forward to doing the challenges. We have already done surfing and we will be doing a lot more! I am looking forward to doing the abseiling and the raft building the most

Top 10 Ways To Look After Your Chromebook

The past few weeks our class has been making short films about how to look after your chromebook. My group was Logan, Shukoor and Tim. Our class came up with a lot of ideas and then we broke them to 10. It is important to look after your chromebook because they are a great learning tool in the classroom. Furthermore you can access  google docs, sides, drawings, sheets and maths whizz. We had a great time making it, there was a lot of bloopers and people talking but we made our way through it and here it is.

First Person point Of View Writing!

‘Wonder’ First Person Point Of View

Our writing task for the past couple of weeks  has been on a book based on Natalie Merchant’s song, Wonder. The book written by R.J Palacio is written in first person view and has more than one person telling the story.

Example 1
Here is my first person quote, it's is in first person because he said, “Mum kind of stepped out of the way so l had to move forward.”

Example 2
When he started school he said, “I can't say I wanted to go to school.”

Example 3
Talking about Mr Tushman With his mum on tour,“He didn't look like I pictured Though.

I think R.J Palacio uses first person when she tells ‘Wonder’. There are 2/3/4 examples as to why I think this.

In the book ‘Wonder’, Palacio uses the first person point of view to tell the story.

‘Wonder’ is a story about a boy who feels ordinary on the inside, but he is always reminded of how different he is by how people respond when

My Mihi!

In the first two weeks of school, Rimu class learnt how to create and say our mihi in Maori. This is our introduction to our class and community. We also created a ‘visual mihimihi’ to match our mihis. We all had to have 3 parts to our mihi.

1) A self portrait or photo
2) Places of significance
3) Symbols or pictures that represent our culture

Those of us who spoke clearly, confidently with excellent pronunciation with great visuals and layout scored on our rubric. Take a look at my finished mihi and tell us what you think!
